Connecting uppers to soles.-The waist part or shank of the sole is attached to the corresponding portion of the upper by adhesive, and the sole proper, from the ball to the toe is fastened in position by sewing or nailing. Preferably, the waist portion of the sole is narrower than usual and is chamfered or bevelled off to fit closely and flush with the upper. Before attachment, the upper surface of the side margins of the waist portion of the sole is grooved or scored as described in Specificatin 262,308. The inner sole may be gemmed with canvas or similar material between the ball and the toe of the upper.
