315,498. Dicker, S. G. S., (Gould Storage Battery Co., Inc.). April 26, 1928. Wadding; compound fabrics and sheet materials.-Spun filaments of glass wool or like vitreous materials are distributed promiscuously in successive layers from a substantially parallel arrangement to form a sheet of uniform thickness and porosity, and adhesive or binder being applied during the process. The sheet may be saturated preferably from both sides with the adhesive or binder which, when the sheet is to be used as a filter, may be soluble in the liquid filtered or may serve as the filtering medium. As shown, the filaments are fed on to a, revolving wire-screen drum 1 mounted in bearings 8 or 9, and when the sheet is of sufficient thickness its edges are trimmed off by a knife held against the drum ends 7 and the sheet is cut across by a knife pressed against the longitudinal ridge 6 of the drum. The drum may be initially coated with adhesive by rotation in the bath 13 and the sheet may be similarly impregnated before it is removed from the drum.
