318,415. Jensen, H. Oct. 19, 1928. Projectiles.-The explosive charge 5 of a whaling projectile is arranged around a central rigid core 6 which does not break up when the explosion occurs, so that the body of the whale is not damaged by metal pieces, and the core can be pulled out and used again. The charge 5 may be bare and in one solid piece of nitrotoluene, or may be enclosed between concentric walls of thin metal or celluloid, or may be built up of discs and covered by a cardboard sleeve. A nose piece 9 is screwed to a stud 8 at the front end of the core, and secures the explosive charge between it and( the enlarged base 7 of the core. A cavity 10 is formed in the base to receive the means for igniting the explosive charge 5 through ducts 11, 12.
