Inflating-valves for footballs &c. comprise a cylindrical or coned plug 12 of indiarubber or other material having a groove 13 with a curved end extending from its upper end along a desired distance of its outer surface, said plug being cemented or otherwise secured at its upper end to the tube 16 of the bladder 17. The plug may be mounted in a separate tube inserted in the tube 16 and may be secured by stitching. The lower end of the plug may be bevelled at 15, and a thread of inextensible material may be arranged longitudinally within it. In the form shown in Fig. 7 the plug is mounted in a member 25 having a flange 26 whereby it is secured to the bladder and having a protuberance 26a with a perforation 27 for the insertion of the inflating nozzle.
