Improvements in calorimetric apparatus for the study of explosives

Calorimeters.-The closure for a bomb calorimeter carries the means for igniting the charge and also the means for carrying away the residual gases. The closure block 1 carries the screw plug 2 in which is mounted the terminal 3 conveying current to the electrode 4 passing through the block and terminating within the calorimeter. There is also mounted in the block 1 a screw plug 8 carrying a valve 10 which controls the egress of the gases which pass along the passage 7 in the block. The axial bore 12 of the valve is turned outwards near the extremity 11 and communicates with an annular space in a capsule 13 screwed into the block 1. The valve terminates in a squared part 17 to which is connected a member 20 which can be connected bv its extremity 21 to the device for collecting the gases.
