Road-vehicle signals.-In visual signals for use on road vehicles in which the signal moves relatively to its mounting the motion of the signal is obtained by means of a helical or' similarly shaped slot mounted on a rotatable member. A reversible electric motor 16 drives, in opposite directions, through a pinion 13 and toothed wheels 11, 12, concentric tubes 5, 6 having helical slots 7, 8, the movement of which results in a series of diamond shaped apertures moving along the casing 1 in a direction corresponding to the direction of rotation of the motor 16 to indicate the direction of turning of the vehicle. The lamps 26, held in spring clips 24, 25 mounted on elements 23 and fed from the motor terminals 20 through insulated rods 21, 22 provide light to render the slots visible. Alternatively, one helically slotted tube acting in conjunction with a narrow slot in the casing 1 may be used, or two driving motors may be provided, one for driving in each direction. The driving motors may be adapted for operation by the steering gear, and the lamps may be lit independently, the spot of light then indicating slowing down or stopping of the vehicle. The Provisional Specification states that the moving light may be obtained by arranging a row of lamps to be successively lighted by means of a commutator; a lamp continuously alight may be covered by a travelling band having spaced gaps; a rotary or oscillatory set of vanes may be adapted to move over an arcuate illuminated slit; or a collapsable fan like sheet may be adapted to spread over a suitable illuminated window.
