Bottling; closures, applying. - In a rotary bottling-machine wherein vertically reciprocating rams lift and lower the bottles to and from the filling and the crowning heads in quick succession, the crowning heads 2 are slidably mounted in the filling heads 1, and are moved into and out of operative position as the machine rotates by the action of rollers 3 on a stationary ramp 4. The non-return of the crowning head causes a movable part 13 of the ramp to pivot at 14, and through the rod 16, arm 17, and shaft 18, to operate trip gear mechanism which stops the machine. Each crowning head comprises a centring bell 6, Fig, 2, crown receptacle 8, crowning cone 7, and a plunger or jumper 9 which is acted on during the crowning operation by the spring-loaded filling bell 11.
