An improved reversed needle plate for apparatus for feeding the sliver in combing machines

Combing-machines.-In a feeding device for a combing-machine of the Schliefer type, as described in Specifications 118,833 and 163,332, and in which the sliver is held by a reciprocating flat comb, the comb is arranged below the feed duct so as to pass upward into the fibres, that is in a direction opposite to the detaching movement of the grippers whereby during the detaching movement the needles are forced more deeply into the fibres, the front row of needles serving as a fixed comb to delimit the detaching zone. The upper member 6, Fig. 1, of the feed duct is pivoted in open bearings 51 on the side walls 511 of the lower member 5. The flat comb 9 is mounted on a plate 8 below the member 5. The duct is operated by a cam 10111 and lever 10, and the comb 9 by a cam 12111, lever 12, and link 13. The plate 8 is provided with pins 81 which slide through sleeves 5111 in the side walls 511. The upper part of the duct is formed as a movable cover, which can be lifted to facilitate the introduction of the sliver. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a Heilmann type, machine wherein the duct 5, 6, Fig. 3 (Cancelled) and comb 9 are mounted inside the nipper jaws 2, 3. The jaws are shaped to the arc of a circle and are swung about a pivot 16 by a cam 18, to a position touching the combing segment 17. The pins on the top comb 21 are staggered with reference to the front row of pins 91 on the comb 9. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
