[Class 123 (i).] The formation of scale in steam boilers, evaporators, condensers, boiling pans, coolers, and the like is prevented from exceeding a certain minimum thickness by the periodical addition of any suitable scale-removing chemical, alternating, at periods of not less than one week, with the periodical addition of any other scale-removing chemical, or any electrical treatment. In some cases, colloidal substances, e.g. the alkali salt of an amino acid, lignine, or lignine sulphonic acid, and adsorbents such as active charcoal, graphite, or kieselguhr may also be added.
