Process for the purification of extracts of sexual hormone-like acting substances

Crude extracts of the sexual hormones obtained from sexual organs, urine, f ces, or vegetable organisms are purified by dissolving the extract in methyl alcohol, repeatedly extracting the solution with petroleum ether, adding water to the methyl alcohol solution, repeating the extraction with petroleum ether, adding further quantities of water and again extracting with petroleum ether. The aqueous methyl alcohol solution is finally evaporated to obtain the hormone.
