[Class 51 (ii).] Air is withdrawn from a glass annealing leer, passed through an external heat exchanger, and then returned to the leer, or directed against the outside of the leer tunnel or the glassware leaving the leer. In the construction shown the heat exchanger consists of a cooling-flue c extending the length of the leer and traversed by open-ended vertical tubes h, through which the atmosphere circulates. Air is drawn from the leer by a fan d through dampered connections e, and after cooling is either returned to the discharge end through the nozzle k, or is directed on to the emerging ware by the nozzle l or on to the top of the leer tunnel by way of the flue m and nozzles n. All the nozzles are of fish-tail form.
