[Class 65 (ii).] A manhole cover or grid A is formed with openended grooves d at each side to receive and slide over inwardly-projecting hinge pins D provided on a frame B, and a hole e extending transversely through the cover or grid is adapted to receive a bar E adapted to assist in handling the cover or grid and prevent the same from falling through the frame when it has been raised from the hinge pins. The slots d may be provided in the cover itself as shown in Fig. 5, or in lugs a formed on the cover and adapted to enter corresponding recesses b in the frame B as shown in Fig. 4. In the latter case a hinge pin may project from each opposite wall or one wall only of each recess. Alternatively the cover may be provided with one centrally-arranged lug.
