Improved device for sharpening or stropping razor blades and the like

[Class 60.] A device for sharpening razor blades &c. consists of a box 1 having a lid 3 hinged thereto at 2 and adapted to be held closed by a catch 3c. In the box is mounted a sharpening roller 4, and in the lid is mounted a sharpening roller 5 ; the rollers may be resiliently mounted, and are driven from a handle, through a oneway clutch 16, by gearing 10 .. 14 in a casing 23. The handle is hinged at 20 to the clutch and may be folded with the crank 21 inside the box when not in use. The razor blade 6 carried by the razor frame 7 lies between the rollers during sharpening, the frame being supported and held in the box by seatings 8 and portions 9. The rollers may be of hard material, for example " Bakelite," and have therein helical grooves 24 in which may be provided strips of leather, rubber, &c., or the rollers may be made of leather, rubber, &c. with metal, glass, &c. in the grooves ; the grooves may be in part righthanded and in part left-handed helices, or may be of both hands intersecting along the roller. A modified form of groove for the rollers is shown in Fig. 6, and the projections 27 may be undercut, the grooves 24 being provided with strips of leather &c. 25 extending partially or wholly across the grooves. The rollers may be driven by friction gearing.
