375,148. Knot-tying devices. VEDOVELLI, M., 4, Via Giulini, Milan, Italy. Sept. 14, 1931, No. 25707. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1930. [Class 112.] The tie-thread for hanks or skeins is inserted and knotted by a device comprising a support a head adjacent comb-teeth which penetrate the hank, the head carrying the knotting means, the device being compact and allowing hanks &c. to be knotted which are very close to each other on a reel. The lacing is effected by a guide &c. 27, Fig. 2, passing between the teeth 3, 31 the two.ends of the tie-thread being left projecting through a yoke 50, Figs. 2 and 6. A rod 38 with teeth 47 is then moved longitudinally and rotates a pinion 46 and toothed drum 44 engaging a pinion 43 on a sleeve 40 which thus turns about a pivot 30 containing a rod 32 with a rounded head 33 and an upper flat head 34 bearing on its upper face against a band 36 with a raised part 37, the band being on the rod 38 which has a handle or knob 39. The sleeve 40 has a cam groove 41 coacting with a stationary pin 42 and is formed with an arm 48 in which .is journalled the end 49 of the yoke 50 which carries a pinion 51 gearing in a fixed segment 52 coaxial with the sleeve 40. The sleeve 40 being rotated and moved axially causes the yoke 50 to rotate and tighten the tie-thread ends which are thus wound and traversed about the nose 31 of the pivot 30. Further movement of the rod 38 allows the rod 32 to be moved up against the raised part 37 of the band 36 by a spring 35, the head 33 thereby clamping the ends of the thread against the nose 31 whereupon a blade 53 cuts the thread. On withdrawing the device from the skein, the clamped end is pulled through the loop formed on the nose 31, thus tying the knot.
