Improvements in and relating to machines for treating textile materials, such as hanks or skeins of yarn

Textile materials such as hanks or skeins of yarn are treated with liquids while supported on hollow fixed supports 16 from which the liquid flows through slits 17 or perforations which may be similar in construction to those PICT:0378614/IV/1 PICT:0378614/IV/2 described in the parent Specification, and the position of the hanks &c. on the supports is altered by rods 54 mounted to rotate round the axis of the supports, the rods 54 being covered by rotatable sleeves 56 so that friction on the threads during lifting is eliminated. The rods may be rotated singly by a handle 55 or all together by a handle 137 or automatically by a motor 40 which rotates a shaft 98 geared to a shaft 65, worms 64 and worm gears 63. Means are provided for periodically disconnecting and connecting the shafts 98, 65 to give periodic rotation of the rods. In dyeing operations it is of advantage to alter the speed at which the lifting rods are rotated and this is effected by providing two clutch elements 106, 108 on the shaft 98 so that by movement of the U-shaped member 111 the drive is obtained from the shaft 38 through a chain and large sprocket 104 or through a chain and small sprocket 105. Liquid is pumped to the supports through a manifold 24 being heated during its circulation by a heater 35.
