378,700. Positioning patients for treatment. CRICHTON, M. A., 49, Murrayfield Gardens, Edinburgh. Oct. 16, 1931, No. 28760. [Class 81 (ii).] A portable appliance for maintaining a patient in the lithotomy position for gynecological, obstetric, and urological operations comprises a folding support of adjustable metal members or straps which in use opens to form a triangle applied below the body of the patient, under a mattress or on a table, and retained in position by the weight of the patient, and provided with means for holding leg-rests. The support comprises three spring steel straps A, B, C forming a triangle whose base lies at the edge of the mattress or table and whose apex reaches to the patient's shoulders. The sides project beyond the base and are notched, the notches co-operating with those in two short straps D, E, pivoted to the straps A, B, to form sockets for tubes H which carry rods L screwing into crutches M. The length of the base C can be varied as desired and the free end clamped between the straps A, D. Each tube H is threaded at its lower end and provided with a butterfly nut and washer for clamping it in its socket. The crutch M is of aluminium and is spanned by two bars P, Q to which securing straps ST are attached. According to the Provisional Specification, the straps D, E are dispensed with and the spacer strap C is bolted to the strap A at any desired position. The support is secured to the bed or table by steel chains and hooks.
