392,705. Road signals for controlling traffic. EATON, S., 29, Stalbridge Avenue, Liverpool. March 15, 1932, No. 7619. [Class 118 (ii).] A road-traffic control signal set by a vehicle depressing a road member is held by catch mechanism which is released after a predetermined interval by the plunger of a dashpot. The road member 27 depressed by the vehicle has rubber packing 38 and bears on vertically sliding rods 29 having rollers 30 adapted to depress a bar 31 connected by links 32 to a stationary bar 33. The horizontal movement of the bar 31 is transmitted by a link 32a to chain and sprocket mechanism 39, lifting-rods 46 and a fork 48 which raises the plunger 20 of a dashpot 19, and at the same time lifts a rod 10 to rotate a spindle 7 and move the signal discs to show the required colours at apertures 4, 5 in stationary discs 3. In rising, the plunger head 22 releases a lever 15, allowing a spring 17 to move a catch 10a to hold an abutment 9 on the signal spindle 7. The plunger falls slowly as the oil escapes past an adjustable valve 25, until at length the head 22 engages the lever 15 and disengages the catch 10a, permitting the signal discs to return to " all clear."
