[Class 51 (ii).] A rotary melting - furnace, more particularly adapted for the production of concrete and like aggregates from earth or waste materials such as towns refuse, comprises a barrel 2 through which the materials are fed to a truncated conical-combustion section 6 having its larger end closed by a wall 30 except for a slot 31 for the discharge of the molten material. Heating is effected by high pressure oil burners 37, one of which is directed on to the inclined wall of the section 6 to complete the fusion of the material. The section 6 may be rotated with, or independently of, the barrel 2, and both parts are supported on bearing rollers 7, 17, and are prevented from moving endwise by rollers 15, 19. A dam ring 4 is fitted at the discharge end of the barrel 2, and packed joints 28, 34 are provided between the relatively moving parts of the furnace. The apparatus is mounted on a chassis 9 having rail and road wheels 10, 40, and may be made in sections for convenience in transport.
