[Class 83 (ii).] Sheet or expanded sheet metal is strengthened by placing a strip or rib c within or about a trough b formed in the sheet and then deforming the parts, as by rolling, drawing or pressing, to secure them as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The rib c may have flanges d and, if arranged about a trough, may be reinforced by a rod or tube e. The deforming pressure may be applied at the tops or at the sides of the inverted troughs so as to reduce relatively the width of the trough openings.
