[Class 4.] Aircraft having hy. draulic or pneumatic mechanism for control. ling the rudder, elevator and ailerons have means operating automatically upon suspension of the supply of pressure medium for opening a discharge or circulating channel for the pressure medium so as to permit manual operation of the control surfaces. A cylinder H controlled by a pilot valve st connected to an automatic control device has a passage b connecting its ends which is closed by a valve V as long as the pressure fluid has access through a pipe l'. When the pressure fluid is cut off a spring f raises the valve and puts the two ends of the cylinder into communication. Alternatively the pressure fluid could be discharged from the cylinders. Three such cylinders are described connected through pipes lH1, lH11 with opposite sides of an oil circulating system provided with a common stop valve under the pilot's control. When the stop valve is opened the pressures in the two pipes are equalized and the springs f open the valves V. Turbines may be used instead of cylinders and a discharge channel for the pressure medium controlled by a valve operated by the pressure medium. The invention may be applied to watercraft.
