414,041. Making aluminium bronze powder. ALUMINUM, Ltd., Canada Life Building, Toronto, Canada.-(Assignees of Arthur, F. C. ; 314, 8th Street, Oakmont, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Jan. 23, 1933, No. 2135. Convention date, May 13, 1932. [Class 100 (ii).] Ricinoleic acid, either alone or mixed with stearic acid, is employed as a lubricant in the manufacture of aluminium bronze powder, with the object of producing a powder of maximum brilliance and good leafing power. The lubricant may be used both in the stamping process for breaking up pieces of the metal into thin flake-like particles and in polishing the powder, e.g. in a drum containing rotary brushes. The acids may be pure or may consist of the commercial products containing other fatty acids ; they may be added simultaneously, for example after reducing to powder form a solid formed by cooling a melted mixture, or they may be added in turn. The above lubricant may be employed during the final polishing only, ordinary lubricants being used in the earlier stages of working and polishing.
