The sill is correspondingly formed of two parts f, f with an abutment h between them, so that when the gate is moved to the vertical position the parts j, h meet. If the tidal water outside the gate is high, the pressure is taken by the parts R, f ; if it is low, the pressure is taken by the parts R1, f1.
