[Class 20 (ii).] Struts or braces in mines are provided with bearing caps formed of H-section metal, two half flanges a of which are spread apart to receive a timber bearer c, while the edges e of the other two half flanges d are bent around as shown so as to enclose the flanges of the strut or brace. The angle between the web b and flanges a is such that the wooden bearer does not touch the web, and the flanges d are thus bent inwardly to grip the strut section.
