418,929. Cutting fruit. ROWAN, W. W., Prome, Glenpatrick Road, Elderslie, Renfrewshire. Aug. 5, 1933, No. 22076. [Class 5 (i).] A machine for cutting oranges, lemons, and like fruit comprises a frame A to which are attached slotted guide plates B, a chain conveyer D mounted between the guide plates, a series of cross-bars H fixed to the conveyer and engaging the slots C in the plates B, a cup or fruit holder J supported by each cross-bar, two cutting knives Q, R, and a pin N detachably mounted on a bracket 0 intermediately of the knives, whereby the cups or holders J are caused to turn through 90‹ for quartering the fruit, the pin being removable so that, if desired, the fruit may be halved. The cups or holders J are mounted on central pins K, part K1 of each of which is of square section and engages a spring L so that contact of any one of the projecting pins M provided on each cup or holder with the pin N causes a quarter revolution of the cup or holder. The cups or holders J are hollow, provided with serrations J1 and a deep recess J2 to retain juice and comprise slots J3 through which the knives pass. The knives Q, R have elongated central slots so that they may be set centrally or eccentrically for partial or complete severing of the fruit. After cutting, the fruit falls on to spring conveyer belts W. The conveyers and knives are driven by a motor 1.
