422,912. Guards for miners' &c. safety lamps. HAILWOOD, E. A., Beacon House, Morley, near Leeds. June 22, 1933, No. 17805. [Class 75 (ii)] A miners' or like safety lamp is provided with a skeleton guard formed from a single piece of material so shaped and attached to the outer frame of the lamp as to be distanced off from the bonnet with a minimum of contact. The attachment may be of a permanent or detachable nature and may be such as to allow the guard to be adjusted into any desired position about the circumference of the lamp. The guard may be made of heat-insulating material, or it may be made of metal or other heat-conducting material and provided with heat insulators at the points of contact with the lamp. It may be shaped to the configuration of a pit prop or of a user's body. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a n-shaped guard A is formed with cranked lower ends engaged in sockets A2 in the middle ring M. The guard may be formed integrally with, or have attached thereto, outstanding prongs A4, Fig. 6, it may be curved or corrugated as shown at A', Fig. 10, or it may be provided with one or more straight or curved cross-bars A5, Fig. 13. Fig. 11 shows a guard comprising a single upright A, whilst Fig. 15 shows a guard of triangular formation secured to the lamp by means of a single projection A13.
