[Class 99 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] In order that a leakage in an oil or liquid-filled cable may be readily detected and located, an undulating or sloping gutter structure extends beneath the cable and serves to convey liquid leaking from the cable to a sump which is disposed at a low point of the gutter structure. As shown in Fig. 1 a gutter structure 5 extends between manholes 8 and beneath a cable section 2, the structure sloping downwardly from the centre of the section in each direction so that liquid leaking from the cable section flows along the structure 5 into one or the other of the manholes 8 in which sumps are provided. The cable 2 may consist of an oil-filled pipe containing insulated conductors 3, Fig. 2, and may rest upon the gutter structure which is formed of tiles. The tiles have a central channel 6 and outer channels 7, Fig. 2, along which leakage oil may flow. The channels 6, 7 are connected at intervals by passages 71. In a modified construction the cable 2 and gutter structure 5 are enclosed in a pipe.
