Improvements in and relating to clamps and holders for screw cutting chasers of die heads

[Class 83 (iii)] In means for clamping chasers in the carriers of screw-cutting die-heads, a chaser 24 is given a cross-sectional shape to fit in an undercut recess 23, 25 in the carrier 20 and is held in the recess by one or two clamps 27 fitting in recesses 26 in the carrier and engaging undercut slots 36 in the chaser. The bottom wall 33, Fig. 2, of each recess 26 is inclined as shown and clearance for the clamp is provided at 31 and 37. Additional seating surfaces 39, 40 are provided on the carrier against which the chaser is pressed by the clamp. The device is shown as applied to a pivoted carrier in Fig. 1, but may also be applied to a bevel-closed radially sliding carrier. A spring ring 42 on the clamping screw 28 facilitates withdrawal of the clamp. In a modification, the recess for the clamp has a flat base 56, Fig. 7, and the clamp 54 engages the base through a foot 63, clearance being provided at 60, 64, and on the inner corner 65. A cylindrical projection 61 on the clamp surrounds the securing screw 68 and seats in a recess 62 in the carrier 55. In further modifications, (Figs. 10 and 11, not shown), the cylindrical projection 61 is replaced by a projection on the carrier engaging a recess in the clamp.
