[Class 107] Apparatus for levelling material on surfaces, such as on roads, comprises a road vehicle having rear wheels 11 and bogie-mounted front wheels, a carrier 13 being suspended from the chassis 10 of the vehicle by three independently adjustable connections and having levelling and distributing blades mounted thereon. The carrier may be suspended from the chassis by one forward and two rear connections of lazy-tong type, each connection comprising links 14 pivoted at 15 to the carrier and at 16 to the chassis and coupled by a right-and-left hand threaded rod 17 adapted to be actuated by a worm 20 and worm wheel. The worm shafts of the rear connections are operated directly by handwheels 24, the forward connection being operated through bevel gearing by a handwheel 23 so that all controls are within reach of an operator seated at 25. The carrier is provided with fixed but vertically adjustable inwardly inclined blades 31 to sweep excess road material into the path of distributing blades 32, 33 mounted on vertical shafts driven through bevel gearing by an internalcombustion engine 38 mounted on the carrier, the distributed material being finally levelled by an inclined blade 39 which extends across the full width of the vehicle and which is reciprocated longitudinally in its own plane by a crank 43 and connecting-rod 41. A clutch 46 is provided to couple the crankshaft with power from the engine. The longitudinally reciprocating blade 39 may be replaced by a rotary helix 50, Fig. 4, on a shaft 51 driven by the engine, final levelling being effected by a fixed blade 55 on the carrier. Specification 422,842 is referred to as showing the construction and arrangement of the blades 32, 33 and 39. The position of the carrier relatively to the road may be determined by a spirit level 26 and by graduated rods 29 which project through eyes 30 fixed on the chassis.
