摘要
PICT:0435194/III/1 Light oils obtained by distillation or hydrogenation of coal or coal-tars are purified by short hot or cold treatment with about 0,3 per cent of a sulphur chloride alone or with a catalyst and about 0,15 per cent of sulphur chloride. The sulphurous resinous, asphaltic, and unstable constituents are converted into high boiling and less soluble substances which are separated by distilling off the oil. Suitable catalysts are fuller's earth, finely divided clay, copper, lead, zinc, anhydrous sulphides of the metals copper, lead, tin, arsenic and antimony. The precise amount of sulphur chloride is determined by preliminary test, e.g. by adding small amounts to the oil, refluxing and distilling until the distillate is of the required quality. In the apparatus shown, light oils are fed by a pipe 11 to a fractionating column 10 heated by a steam coil 13 in a residue-receiving position 12 provided with draw-off means. Sulphur mono-chloride is fed in by a pipe 19 and hydrogen chloride passes off by a pipe 14 to an absorber or to a chamber 16 for conversion to chlorine which is passed to a chamber 18 to be united with recovered sulphur to form sulphur chloride. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes the use of small amounts of a sulphur chloride, preferably less than 1 per cent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
