435,669. Storage of gases under pressure. BARON, H., 231, Strand, London. -(Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges.; Siemensstadt, Berlin) Dec. 24, 1934, No. 37004. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] Hydrogen generated under pressure in an electrolytic cell A is led by a pipe Bto apressuretight flask F filled with water or other inert and incompressible liquid, which it fills by displacement, the displaced water passing by a pipe M to fill a fresh flask O from which the displaced air escapes by a capillary tube V. Washing of the gas is effected during filling. Cocks D, K and Q are then closed and cocks D1, K1, Q1 opened for filling the flask F1 with gas and the flask O1 with water. The flasks F, F1 are then removed and replaced by the flasks O, O1. Part of the displaced water may be returned to the cell through a pipe S provided with a cock T and check-valve U. Similar arrangements are provided for the collection of oxygen delivered by the pipe C. The water displaced under pressure from the gas flasks may be caused to perform work, e.g. by driving a turbine or by supply to a water accumulator or a hydraulic press.
