436,729. Walls; floors ; slabs. CARSON, N. B., and GILLIES, M. C., 214, West Regent Street, Glasgow. April 17, 1934, No. 11508. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] Relates to a wall of a building comprising slabs E having rabbeted side edges for engaging the correspondingly shaped side edges of vertical studs H which are of storey height and, together with horizontal bonding beams F disposed at each ceiling level, form a rigid frame as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, all the slabs, studs and beams being of pre-cast reinforced concrete. According to the invention, the beams F are of substantially channel-section with the webs arranged vertically and the flanges extending horizontally inwardly of the wall whereby the upper flange forms a support for the floor beams G of the next upper storey. The beams F bridge at least two adjacent vertical studs H so as to serve as ties for the same. The slabs E may be built up to form a hollow wall in association with T-section studs H as shown in Fig. 2, the rabbets being either of stepped or inclined form. The studs may, alternatively, be of I-section, with tapering flanges, as shown in Fig. 10. The lower walls of a building may be formed as shown in Fig. 8 with studs formed in two inter-engaging halves. At corners, the stud 20 is of L-section. When it is desired that two adjacent slabs should interfit, the rabbets on opposite sides of the slabs are arranged to face in opposed directions. The beams F may be provided with an ornamental ledge 23, as shown in Fig. 3, and a lower projecting ledge 25 which, together with the rabbeted edge portions of the studs, forms a recessed portion to receive a window or door frame. The floor beams G, Fig. 7, which are also of reinforced concrete, extend across the structure, being supported on the upper flanges of the beams F, or, in the case of the ground floor beams, on concrete blocks 35. A wall, formed of slabs engaging with the flanges of T-section studs, may have an inner covering of wallboards attached to the webs of the studs. Ventilation holes may be provided in the studs H and beams F, G. The abutting surfaces of all the components are cemented together. The reinforcement of the slabs, studs, and beams consists of longitudinal rods connected by stirrups. The Provisional Specification describes also the inter-storey beams as consisting of one member of L-section and one of U- section.
