[Class 146 (ii)] An educational appliance comprises a disc, representing the earth, supported on an inclined member mounted in a rotatable bearing carried by an arm rotatable about a rod representing the sun and furnished with adjustable radial arms or pointers ; a protractor, carried by an arm adjustably attached to the centre of the earth disc so as to be capable of setting tangentially to any point on the circumference of the disc, is also provided. The disc 7 is detachably or securely mounted on an arm 8 adjustably supported in a socket 9 on an arm 10 carrying a pointer 10a and pivotally mounted in the centre of a ring 13 divided into twelve spaces representing the months of the year ; the socket is arranged so that the arm 8 is inclined at an angle of approximately 23¢‹. The ring 13 is provided with castors running over a baseboard A and is carried by an arm 14 pivoted at the centre of the baseboard, an upright rod 1 being also rotatably mounted at the centre of the board to represent the sun. The disc 7 is adapted to support, on one or both sides, discs 18 of paper, cardboard, &c. bearing lines representing the axis, equator, tropics, &c. and data demonstrating various natural phenomena, correct positioning being obtained by means of a pin 18x on the disc 7 and apertures in the interchangeable discs. One of the discs is provided with a radially subdivided circle 18a with which co-operates a line 21b on an apertured or transparent arm 21 adapted to be mounted at the centre of the disc, and carrying a protractor 22 co-operating with a pointer 2 attached to the sun rod 1 to indicate the angular elevation of the sun. A half-disc 23 of celluloid, sheet metal, cardboard, &c., attachable to the earth disc, is provided to represent night. A number of pointers 2 is provided, each being adjustable in a split sleeve 3 carried by another split sleeve 4 adjustably mounted on the sun rod 1. According to the Provisional Specification, the half-disc may be hinged to a support on the base so that it can be swung into and out of position.
