[Class 132 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A method of producing colour effects for theatrical, advertising and display purposes, comprises illuminating moving objects by light the colour of which before reaching the eye is caused to alternate periodically between various colours at such a high frequency, that the light appears to the eye to be of a uniformly blended colour, white for example, the moving objects being provided with lightabsorbing and with light-reflecting parts, and being moved with such periodicity, that they assume, owing to periodic interference intense colours in lasting stationary or slowly moving designs. The alternation in colour of the light may be effected by inserting moved multi-coloured colour filters between the objects and the light source or sources, or between the objects and the eye. The objects may coinprise moved ribbons or films or rotating discs, cylinders, cones, spheres, &c., for example, in the form of sunshades, or wheels to be rolled, divided into white and black sectors or similar periodic designs, Spiral divisions may be used to give apparent centripetal or centrifugal effects, and the coloured designs may be made to appear substantially transparenb by using perforated moving objects such as windmill sails. The composition of the light may vary, and the light pass from one composition to another without this change being visible in the lighting. The periodicity of the change of the lighting may be varied. The lighting in the various parts of the field need not be composed in the same manner, and in the case of several sources of light, the light filters may be synchronized in various ways.
