[Class 100 (i)] In a web-turning bar having longitudinally reciprocating web-engaging bars actuated by a helical cam surrounding the turning bar, the cam is in the form of a closed guide track having a diameter greater than that of the surfaces of the web-engaging bars. The web-engaging bars 12, Figs. 1 and 2, are made of thin hard steel and are secured at one end to members 8 mounted in radial grooves 7 in a cylindrical block 6 secured to a stub shaft 1 driven by a gear 5. The members 8 are provided with rollers 10 engaging a cam guide track 91 formed by the space between the helical ends of a pair of sleeves 9 secured within a fixed casing 3. The diameter of the track 91 is about twice that of the surface of the bars 12. The bars 12 are supported by guide rails 13 secured to a sleeve 11 mounted on the stub shaft 1, and provided with channels 14 through which cold compressed air is passed to remove any heat generated by the friction of the bars 12 on the rails 13. This friction may be reduced by allowing slight radial play of the bars on the rails.
