[Class 28 (ii)] A last-slice holder has a substance-supporting face 13 to give a last slice of determinate thickness, and another face 26, which is removable or movable to an inoperative position, to give a last slice of lesser thickness. The prong-carrying shafts 22 are journalled in vertical frame members joined by a cross-bar 10. The main face plate 13 has top and side flanges which embrace the cross-bar 10 and the vertical members of the frame. One of the side flanges serves as a housing for a train of gear wheels 25, actuated by a gear 24 and a handle 23, for rotating the prongs 21 which are projectible through holes 20 in the plate 13. The other side flange is secured to the vertical frame member by screws having tapered heads, and the top flange 13a is secured to the bar 10 by a thumb screw 14. The auxiliary face plate 26 has a top flange 26a slotted at 28 to accommodate the screw 14, and a side flange, at the side remote from the gears 25, which has holes which fit over the tapered heads of the screws securing the main face plate. In a modification, the top edge of the auxiliary plate 26 is connected to the flange 13a by a hinged flexible member, e.g. mail chain. The plate 26 hangs over the face 13 from which it is spaced by stop pins. The plate 26 is rendered inoperative by swinging it over to hang against the back of the holder.
