Improvements relating to the supply of dyestuffs, alum and other materials in solution or suspension, to paper pulp during its passage to paper making machines

PICT:0475972/IV/1 In the manufacture of paper, necessary solutions or suspensions are added to the pulp stream immediately before its passage to the paper-making machine, from storage tanks through open nozzles, delivery of each solution or suspension being controlled by adjusting the hydrostatic head of the solution above its nozzle. Solutions or suspensions of rosin size, casein, sodium silicate, glycerine &c. dyestuffs, alum, glue, fillers are fed to pulp in its passage to a paper-making machine, from a tank 13, through a flexible hose 14, and float - valve ensuring constant level to a tank 5 counterbalanced by a weight 12 on a cable 7 wound up or down by a drum 10 and handle 11 or by a scale 15 attached at one end to the tank 5 and at the other to a spring-drum 16. A pointer indicates on the scale the delivery rate or the hydrostatic head of liquid in the tank 5 above the delivery nozzle 1, different sizes of which nozzle may allow outflow rates in the ratio 1 : 10 : 100 &c. allowing the same scale to be used for each, as by the pointer covering columns of figures when requisite. Two or more applicances may be mounted on a common frame, and deliver a mixture of substances.
