摘要
Pots for plants or flowers are prepared by moulding a mixture of a synthetic plastic and organic or inorganic substances, removing some or all of the pressing skin and treating the moulding by physical or chemical means to remove the added substances wholly or in part so as to leave capillary canals in the moulding. The added substances may be plant-nutrients or materials for preventing or suppressing the growth of weeds or parasites and the removal may be effected by the action of the soil in the plant. Suitable materials include inorganic or organic salts, metal oxides, metals, sulphur, iodine, zinc, sodium chloride or potassium chloride. Plastic materials include phenol, alkylamine, arylamine, urea and hydrocarbon condensates with aldehydes, cellulose esters and casein and the plastics may contain natural resins, asphalts or copals and fillers such as wood or cellulose flour, asbestos or slate flour, silicic acid, fibres and colours. In an example, a phenol-formaldehyde moulding powder is mixed with potassium chloride and after moulding the pressing skin is removed wholly or in part and potassium chloride dissolved out until the moulding becomes porous to yield a plant pot that is partially porous yet contains potassium chloride in the walls. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the manufacture of articles of plastic materials that have capillary canals through them. Articles specified include filters (for gas masks, air purifiers, for oil refining or regeneration, and for extracting), diaphragms, evaporators, condensers, cooling apparatus (butter coolers), floating bodies (the pores, if necessary, being sealed by a coating), cases or frames for bath thermometers, heat insulaters (for manufacture of flasks comparable to Dewar flasks and for handles for cooking vessels). Articles may also be preferred having the pores filled with other materials such as therapeutic agents or disinfectants (catheters and surgical instruments, knobs and handles of doors, windows, valves or cocks, car holds, telephone mouth and ear pieces), oils (electric insulation and bearings) or metals (electric or heat conductors). The plastic materials also include shellac, asphalt, and copal. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Pots for plants or flowers are prepared by moulding a mixture of a synthetic plastic material and organic or inorganic substances, removing some or all of the pressing skin and treating the moulding by physical or chemical means to remove the added substance wholly or in part and leave a pot having fine capillary canals therein.
