[Class 120 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A scutcher 10 having a fan 11, Fig. 1, is provided with an open-ended revoluble drum 18 having a perforated periphery 19, Fig. 2, to which air is delivered by the fan 11 and by which dust is removed from the air which is then discharged into the chamber 17. When the machine is in operation, dust-laden air from the collecting cages X, Y and chamber 10x is delivered by the fan 11 to the inlet 15 of a housing 16 and is forced into the gradually narrowing passage 26. The air passes through the perforations 20, Fig. 5, into the drum 18 and is discharged through the open ends into the chamber 17. The dust which collects on the drum 18 is removed by a revoluble roller 27 having a smooth or ribbed surface, Figs. 2 and 5, mounted on a lever 28 pivoted at 29 and pressed by a spring 30 into contact with the drum 18. The roller 27 is rotated by a sprocketchain 31 and the dust is delivered into a container 38. The drum-shaft 21 may be driven through worm gears 40, 43 from the shaft 44. Alternatively, the drum 18 may be rotated by ratchet-and-pawl mechanism.
