[Class 145 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Sheets to take the place of plywood and the like, made from compressed layers of wooden strips as described in the parent Specification are provided on one or both sides with a surface layer of suitable material such as sawdust, wood fibre, straw, paper, cardboard, textile fibre, threads, or tissue, asbestos fibre, glass threads or sheets, artificial resin, rubber, wire or wire netting. The coating is preferably applied when the strips are stacked for compression. The sheet may be armoured by the insertion of metal wires, chips, or netting. Patterns may be formed on the top face by the use of suitably formed press plates. Curved sheets may be produced by the use of correspondinglyformed press pla.tes, either when compressing the strips or for subsequently bending the sheet. Preservatives may be employed, either by impregnation of the strips or by addition to the adhesive, suitable agents for use against water, fire, bacteria, fungus, parasites, and animals being referred to in the Specification.
