[Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A storage chamber into which refuse or other dusty material is discharged from a vehicle having a closed body with a rear discharge door, is provided with a door which is connected with a movable sealing device arranged externally of the chamber, the action of opening the chamber door when the vehicle is in position before the chamber, applying the sealing device around the sides and top of the body of the vehicle adjacent the rear end thereof, and closing of the chamber door withdraws the said device from the vehicle body. In the embodiment shown in which refuse is discharged from a vehicle 2 into a chamber 1, after the chamber door 4 has been pivoted about its hinge 5 by the vehicle door 3, as described in Specification 483,597, a pair of sealing plates 8 mounted by means of rollers 10 in guides 11 and connected by a cable 16 to an arm 14 supporting a counterweight 15, fall by gravity downwards and inwards so that their sealing edge 9 of sponge rubber engages with the sides and roof of the vehicle. When the door 3 is closed, the door 4 falls to its closed position and, after taking up slack in the cable 16, draws the plates 8 upwards away from the vehicle. The space beneath the vehicle body is closed by a flexible rubber strip 18.
