The hexamethylenetetramine salt of monohexylresorcinol sulphonic acid is prepared by neutralizing with hexamethylenetetramine the hexylresorcinol sulphonic acid obtained by sulphonating hexylresorcinol or by reducing the sulphonation product of caproylresorcinol. The product possesses therapeutic properties. According to the example, hexylresorcinol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid, the solution neutralized with barium hydroxide or carbonate, the filtrate extracted with ether to remove unchanged starting material, and the equivalent quantity of the base then added. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes the conversion of the acid into inorganic or organic salts and contains two further examples describing (1) the preparation of the acid by heating caproylresorcinol with concentrated sulphuric acid, followed by reduction with zinc dust in the presence of residual acid, and (2) the conversion of sulphonated hexylresorcinol into its potassium salt. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
