[Class 31 (i)] The selvage edges of a textile fabric are removed by feeding it to cutters j mounted on adjustably rotatable sleeves g of carriages e which are movable laterally under the action of cords m and weights m2 and are controlled by arms l engaging the edges of the fabric. The fabric passes over rolls n and a rail k and the arms l are provided with projections l1 which enter grooves k2 in the rail k ; the cutters j enter grooves k1 in the rail k. The carriages e are provided with rollers r, s which run on L-shaped rails a. Buffers p are provided on the carriages e, and catches o which can be engaged with notches a1 in the rails to hold the carriages in inoperative positions. In a modified arrangement, one carriage extending over the whole width of the fabric is used and is provided also with intermediate cutters for slitting the fabric longitudinally. By means of the sleeves g, the cutters can be moved to inoperative positions.
