Process for the preservation of helianthus or like tubers on their removal from the soil

Helianthus and other tubers which on their removal from the soil will keep for a short time only are preserved by washing, drying and coating with talc or graphite or both. The coating may be effected by placing the tubers in a box containing a small quantity of the coating material, and shaking or rolling it. For transport, the coated tubers may be packed in boxes lined on the interior with talc or graphite, or both.
