502,793. Hydraulic transmission of power. NASH, A. G. FRAZER-. June 25, 1937, No. 17775. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXI] In operating mechanism for a gun or turret mounting, drive is transmitted from a reversible rotary hydraulic motor tc the mounting through friction elements which are normally urged together by a spring, the effectiveness of the frictional connection being varied either by centrifugally-operated means or by means operated by variations in the pressure of the liquid supply to the motor due to changes in speed. As shown in Fig. 1, a pinion 8 is arranged between a disc 4, secured to a sleeve 3 fastened to the shaft 2 of the motor and a disc 6 splined on the sleeve 3. Weighted levers 12, pivotally mounted by pins 11 on a sleeve 9 splined on the sleeve 3, have cam surfaces 14 acting on the disc 6 through a ball thrust bearing 10. A spring 15 acts on the sleeve 9 to maintain a minimum pressure on the disc 6, which pressure increases as the levers 12 move outwards under centrifugal action. Alternatively, a member rigidly connected with the motor shaft may carry blocks which are slidable radially under the action of springs, augmented by centrifugal force, into contact with a driven member. As shown in Fig. 2, the member 6 is acted on directly by a spring 19 and is also controlled by levers 26 and 27 operated by pistons 32 and 33 located in cylinders connected by passages 36 and 37 with the supply of pressure fluid to the motor, so that, if shock arises in the pipe system of the motor, the levers are moved in a direction to reduce the effectiveness of the frictional drive.
