[Class 27] [Also in Group XVII] Coin-slit closing-devices; testing coins.-A coin-insertion device for preventing fraud in coin-freed machines and other coin receptacles comprises a pocket 1, Figs. 1 and 8, carried by an escutcheon plate 3 and provided with a slot 4 in its end wall through which the coin passes to the machine or receptacle. Guide slots 5 are provided in the top and bottom walls. A shutter 7 having inturned flanges 8 working in slots 9 in the pocket normally closes the slot 4. A coin inserted into engagement with the guideways 5 makes contact with inclined ramps 15 on the flanges 8 and pushes the shutter aside to uncover the slot 4 so that the coin can pass through. Small coins do not engage the ramps and cannot be inserted. In a modification, Fig. 7, the shutter has an extension 20 with a slot 21 which coincides with the slot 4 only if the coin is of proper diameter. A large coin moves the shutter too far and the portion 20 closes the slot 4.
