[Class 46] A worm press for extracting oil has the outlet end of the press chamber fitted with an axiallyadjustable conical element 8 co-operating with a castellated ring 7 so that the material is extruded in the form of bars or ribbons. Means may be provided for varying the cross-sectional area of the openings in the ring 7, for instance fingers of taper section engaging in the openings and mounted so as to be capable of axial movement relatively to the ring. A knife rotating with worm shaft may be provided to cut up the bars. The element 8 may have teeth or a thread 10, as described in Specification 519,876, and may be driven at the same speed as the worm 4 or at a different speed. It may have the narrow end directed inwardly instead of outwardly. The outlet may have a flared mouth 11. A worm section of different pitch from that of the main worm may be arranged between the main worm and the element 8.
