[Class 100 (iii)] Trimming type-bars.-The side faces of the type-bar 8, Fig. 2, near its character-bearing edge are trimmed by rotatably mounted circular knives 2, which are either caused to slide relatively to the type-bar, or are stationary, in which case the type-bar is moved past them. The knives are mounted in bearing-blocks 12, Fig. 4, which are adjustably secured to the cheeks of a knife-block 3 by screws 15. Both knives may be mounted on a single spindle and separated by a spacing-piece. The knives may be inclined to the faces of the type-bar, as shown in Fig. 7, and may also be inclined in the direction of the length of the type-bar.
