553,268. Clamps. RICE, E. A. B., ROSE, A. G., CURTIS, S., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. May 15, 1940, No. 8688. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXI] Relates to carriages movable along a track and clamped by a friction shoe slidably mounted in the carriage for movement into and out of engagement with the track by cam or eccentric means. According to the invention, the cam or eccentric is continuously urged into engagement with the shoe by a spring which normally effects the locking, the release being effected by actuating the cam or eccentric by operating means. The invention is shown applied to a gun support 24 movable round a track 11 as described in Specification 553,267, [Group XXI]. Sliding shoes 73, faced with anti-friction material 766, are moved into and out of engagement with the track by eccentrics 71 fast with a spindle 68, a pinion 67 on which is rotated by a rack moved by an arm 62 on a lever 52. This lever, fulcrummed at 51, is pressed upwardly to urge the friction shoes against the track by a spring 61 mounted on the support 24 and acting through a pin 54 on the lever. By moving the lever to the dotted-line position where it is locked by a catch 81, the spindle 68 is rotated to release the friction shoes. The lever may be operated by a knob 79 or hand-grip 53.
