[Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii)] To prevent steaming in an economizer 2, a valve 11 regulating a flow of water additional to boiler requirements is so controlled by a thermostat placed in the economizer at the point of highest water temperature that the valve is opened when the water temperature approaches the boiling-point. The additional water may pass into a hot-water tank instead of into the boiler. In a modification, the thermostatically-operated valve controls the supply of additional steam to the boiler feed-pump.
