[Class 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a compression ignition engine driving a variable pitch.propeller, the device for adjusting the pitch of the propeller is coupled to the engine control in such a way that the pressure of the air delivered by the supercharger never falls below 60 per cent. of that delivered at full load. The engine 1 drives a supercharger 5 through gears 9, 2, 4 of which the gear 2 is solid with a propeller 3 having blades adapted to be adjusted to forward, neutral or reverse positions by. a rod 7 connected to the end of hand lever 8. The pivot rod 13 of the lever 8 carries a cam 14 adapted to displace laterally a rod 18 carrying a governorcontrolled lever 21, a pin 24 on the end of which engages in a slot 25 on a link 26 having its remote end pivoted at 27 to a fuel pump control rod 11. The pivot 27 is mounted on the end of a depending arm 29 pressed towards the rod 18 by a spring 36 and connected thereto by the slotted end 19 of a rod 20. The setting of the lever 8 thus controls the setting of the fuel, except in so far as it may be overridden by the centrifugal governor 23 actuating the lever 21, and the setting of the propeller blades, this latter being accomplished within determined limits by stops 33 adjusted by spring-pressed pistons 31 exposed to the supercharger pressure through a pipe 32. The propeller. may be adjusted by a servomotor controlled by a hand actuated valve operating through separate operating-fluid control valves for forward and reverse movements.
